LOCAL CADETS PROVIDE PUBLIC WITH OPPORTUNITY TO SEND
HOLIDAY CHEER TO HMCS CALGARY
November 16, 2009 - The Royal Canadian Sea Cadet
Corps (RCSCC) Calgary will be spreading the holiday
cheer this year by providing the general public with
an opportunity to send "Season's Greetings" to Her
Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Calgary. HMCS Calgary
has currently been on deployment to Central and
South America since August 17th. This event is to
take place on Saturday, November 21, 2009
(10:30am-8:30pm) and Sunday November 22, 2009
(11:30am-5:30pm) at CrossIron Mills (located at
261055 CrossIron Blvd, Rocky View). It is an
excellent opportunity for residence of Calgary and
area, by signing the "Season's Greetings" card, to
send messages of support and thanks to the men and
women who serve onboard Calgary's namesake ship.
Additionally Cadets and Officers of RCSCC Calgary
will be available to answer questions regarding the
Cadet movement, and the activities available to all
youth of Calgary. "This is a great opportunity for
our cadets to include members of the public in their
interests, while at the same time helping them to
develop a sense of responsibility to their
community, and develop citizenship skills", says
Executive Officer SLt Dan Barnfield, " after all,
only through activities such as this can they grow
as individuals and future leaders".
For those missing the opportunity to sign the card,
or would like further information on joining the Sea
Cadet RCSCC Calgary will be hosting an open house
the following Monday, November 23, 2009 at the north
East Armories located at 1227-38th Avenue NE Calgary
from 7:00pm - 9:00pm.
RCSCC Calgary was formed in 1991, and is sponsored
by the Bow Valley Branch of the Navy League of
Canada. The name of Calgary was chosen for the Corps
anticipation of the commissioning of a new Canadian
Patrol Frigate named after the City of Calgary.
Every Monday, its team provides a free program to
Calgary's youth, between the ages of 12-18, with a
focus on: Developing leadership and good
citizenship; Promoting physical fitness; and
Stimulating interest in the activities of the
Canadian Forces.
