HISTORY OF THE CORPS

RCSCC CALGARY was formed in 1991, and is sponsored by the Bow Valley Branch of the Navy League of Canada. The name of Calgary was chosen for the Corps anticipation of the commissioning of a new Canadian Patrol Frigate named after the City of Calgary.

The corps originally paraded in the Bridgeland Community Center in the Fall of 1991. In 1993, the Corps moved to its present accommodation in the Northeast Armoury.

The corps’ fourth inspection, on May 11th, 1995, was held on the flight of the deck of HCMS CALGARY. The corps then attended the commissioning of the HMCS CALGARY on May 12th, 1995.

RCSCC CALGARY has won several awards and sports competitions. One of the proudest moments for our cadets has been achieving first place in the drill competition during 195 Alberta Sea Cadet Sports Competitions.
